Dr. Blue: Because it's true. Young people today are almost all dripping with narcissism, are nearly impossible to motivate, and can only focus on something for about two minutes. You notice it in everything. A year ago, I met a class of new students, all on their first day of a brand new writing course. Pretty much every single one of them was negative. Dear Lord, nothing but whining. Very little eye contact. Their eyes were fixed on their phones. Very little response, too. During a round of introductions, they all clammed up because none of them dared to speak publicly, except when they feel they are being wronged (then they'll start shouting and filming everything).
This isn’t a unique story. It is without a doubt the new norm. It's been like this for about five years now. Due to their poor social development, they find many things offensive, don’t understand social nuances, and are only concerned with themselves. They express their feelings using pre-chewed labels and talk a lot without saying anything of substance. But beware, Anonguy! You can't tell them this because they'll feel attacked and will IMMEDIATELY go to someone to complain about you, and cancel you if they get the chance. You see this kind of type more and more: not resilient, infantile, insecure, unstable, and at the same time arrogant, know-it-all, and lazy.
Anonguy: I feel offended.
Dr. Blue: You'll survive.

Easily offended little snowflakes.
ReplyDeleteThat about sums it up.
DeleteI’m afraid for my dear sweet grandkids. I hear the same thing from my teacher friends. Apparently, students can now threaten teachers with physical violence and there are no repercussions.
ReplyDeletePhysical violence? Are you kidding me?
DeleteAnd this is exactly why I was glad to hear the schools here were banning cell phones in class starting this year. Get these kids off their phones for a few hours each day. Make them go outside and play with other kids and develop some social skills. My grandson is 11 years old and my daughter has refused so far to buy him a cell phone thankfully. Maybe some of what I've told her is actually rubbing off. lol
ReplyDeleteSmart daughter, Mary. Why am I not surprised?
DeleteWhat a horrible bunch of people we are raising. How will they cope with mortgages, bills, family, and the lovely realities of everyday life?
