OLD LOVE
When life is kind,
a friendly gesture from a friend;
when pain is canned
And plenty’s not a burden,
I know I’m blessed,
I know how much I owe to you,
Old Love Renewed.
For here I am,
fixing a sagging garden bench,
peeking at her splendor,
wondering why I’m
this lucky.
Who would’ve thought that second chances do exist;
that even after thirty years she’d find her way to me,
rekindling her passion, looping me in the loops of her hair —
Brown Penny, did you know?
For there she is,
tending to her flowerbed,
the sun, perhaps a little jealous,
complementing all her moves,
accentuating beauty
and all there is to admire.
And I know I’m blessed,
I know how much I owe to you,
Old Love Renewed.

Touching! It was meant to be. Especially after all those years.
ReplyDeleteHow this happened is still a blur. Thanks for stopping by, Alex.
DeleteWait, you have a garden now? Or was you talking about your own bush? A man has to tend to that one, I agree.... See how I find erotica even in innocent odes to love.... oh, Blue, take your banjo, and I shall take my mandolin and we shall play us a nonsad song....
ReplyDeleteYes, I do. About 2000 square feet, is all, but at least I'm no longer surrounded by hump-happy neighbors. So in a way I was talking about my own bush, you naughty man, you. Now, let me try and find that good ole banjo of mine.
DeleteThat's so sweet.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary.
DeleteA beautiful poem, Blue. Sending you good vibes this Monday morning.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. This has been an exellent day.
DeleteLovely poem, dearest Blue. Will you be the Yeats of our time?
ReplyDeleteI wish :)
DeleteYou are the new Yeats. How moving and gentle. I'm happy for you, Blue.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules Dear. If I had Yeats' talents, I wouldn't be a college professor, methinks. I'd be on some island, called Bora Bora, jotting down poems like a teacher jots down "F!" How are you?
DeleteP.S. I tried to comment on your post but for some reason it didn't like my url :(
DeleteWhat? That’s ridiculous. Try again and tell me what happens.
DeleteYou wrote it? It's very lovely, and I'm so very happy for you.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do. In about ten minutes' time, feeling inspired. It happens every blue moon. Good to hear from you again, Rosey.
DeleteBlue, do you ever check your spam box here at the dashboard???
ReplyDeleteUmmmmm, no. Didn't even find a spam box, just a tick I needed to.... tick.
DeleteIt is in the comments section at our dashboard, under the little arrow beside the number of published comments. When you click it it opens spam box as well, where our comments often end up and you need to save them from death.
DeleteI hate the changes they made years ago. Where's that pencil to edit whatever you want to edit anyway?
DeleteVery lovely piece
ReplyDeleteThank you, Adam. Good to hear from you again.
DeleteIt's a pretty piece :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jaya J.
