Christmas Ode to the Cut 'n' Paste Generation

Dear all,

At least one of us has been working too much as in all year long, but that doesn't mean I've forgotten about any of you or that I can't find the time to wish you all a Merry Christmas. It's just that, as I write this, I'm grading a ton of mediocre papers that are the result of endless cutting and pasting sessions with a touch of millennial-friendly A.I. That's why today's poem is called Christmas Ode to the Cut 'n' Paste Generation. Enjoy.

In the meantime, have fun today and talk to you soon.

Blue

In pixels bright, our lives are rearranged,
With copy, paste, and scroll, we make our way.
Through fragmented thoughts, our world’s been changed,
Where fleeting words and images hold sway.
Once crafted lines, now swiped with ease and speed,
A patchwork quilt of borrowed, scattered thoughts.
No time to linger, pause, or truly read,
We search for meaning in the web’s bright knots.
Yet in this age of swift and fleeting grace,
A Christmas pause reminds us to reflect,
For though our hands may cut, our hearts embrace,
The deeper truths that digital can't detect.
So let us, in this season's quiet light,
Pause, and find the soul behind that damn blue byte.

  2. And to think we just had Cliff's Notes to plagiarize. This generation is spoiled with their cheating options LOL

    Happy New Year, Blue!

    1. Cliff's Notes.... Hey, I remember those! Well, I suppose Cliff's Notes are hard work for today's kids. I'm not even kidding.

      Happy New Year, Theresa!

  3. It's crazy how much things have changed, even since my kids were in college 7-16 years ago. Yes, I just did the math and my oldest began college in 2008. How is that possible when I'm still a spring chicken??

I hope your New Year is full of light and joy. Miss you, Blue!

    1. Oh I hear ya, Bijoux. I remember good ole Prince singing

'Cause they say two thousand zero zero
Party over, oops out of time
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999

way back in 1984, and I said to myself, "Man, I'll be old then." And now the year 2025 is knockin' on our door. How did that even happen, right? Talk about being out of time. Well, pretty much.

Anyway, may 2025 be a great year for you and your loved ones. I'll be stopping by more often. I need to work less and enjoy life a bit more.

  4. In a novel that I've just translated a college profesoressa goes to a hotel to kill herself, she cannot take it anymore LOL Luckily she does not do it in the end... but, boy, do we have enough inspiration for it in today's world?
Happy 2025, Blue, may your blue take a lighter shade and when it is not think of me saying something very naughty to you as usual and you will feel better....

    1. Will do, Dez. Will do. 2025... doesn't that sound like some far away future to you? The year 2000... doesn't that sound like 10 years ago, max?

  5. Hello Blue,

Imagine my surprise to see this wonderful post from you
reflecting on the poetry of life and all that came into view
we dream, we write, we decipher the stories of the day
we pray for grace and light to lead us on our merry way
this year nears its end, and a new one will soon begin
hope it brings wickedly good things that make you grin

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
Cheers to a better New Year!

    1. I'll drink to that 'cause 2024 wasn't great, to say the least. In a nutshell: work, work, work. Sigh. Thanks for the poem. No one can rhyme like you. It's a fact.
